wavestate SE is a powerful evolution of KORG’s legendary WAVESTATION, taking Wave Sequencing to a new level. Designed in California and manufactured in Japan, wavestate SE features a premium 61-note keyboard with aftertouch in an all-metal chassis. Designed to usher in a new era for musicians, composers and producers, wavestate SE features hundreds of dynamic sounds, comprehensive controls and 120-note polyphony to inspire new levels of creativity.
KORG's legendary WAVESTATION introduced the world to Wave Sequencing, which could transform raw samples into sounds no one had ever heard before. The flagship OASYS and KRONOS keyboards further refine Wave Sequencing, expanding their unique palette of lush, evolving pads and driving rhythms.
Launched in 2020, wavestate took Wave Sequencing to the next level. Featuring a radically redesigned Wave Sequencing 2.0, wavestate delivers stunning, ever-changing sounds with extensive on-board controls. Far from a throwback remake, wavestate was designed from the ground up for a new generation of musicians, producers, and composers, taking cues from a variety of sources including modular synths, groove boxes, and algorithmic composition.
Wavestate also introduced another groundbreaking concept: wavestate native software (*sold separately, available to wavestate users at a discount) makes wavestate available in your DAW with full compatibility and no compromises. Perfect for seamlessly transitioning between software and hardware work.
Now, KORG is pleased to introduce the flagship wavestate SE. Made in Japan, the wavestate SE features KORG’s premium 61-key, naturally weighted keyboard with aftertouch for the same great feel as KORG’s high-end workstations. Its metal body is sleek, strong, and ready for both gigs and studios. The metal knobs have just the right weight for easy adjustment. Underneath its appearance, it also packs a staggering 120 polyphony stereo sound—almost twice as much as the original wavestate.
Wavestate SE comes with hundreds of sounds, updated for aftertouch control, and is fully compatible with both the original Wavestate and Wavestate Native sounds and samples, including many excellent third-party libraries.

Wave Sequencing 2.0
The original WAVESTATION gave each step of a wave sequence a duration, a sample, and a pitch. This created pleasing, repeating patterns that opened up entirely new approaches to sound design. But what if sounds could evolve in organic, unexpected ways, rather than repeating?
Wave Sequencing 2.0 separates the timing, sample sequence, and melody so that each can be modified independently. It also adds new features such as shapes, gate times, and step sequencer values. Each of these is a “Lane,” and each Lane can have a different number of steps and its own start, end, and loop points.
Each time the sequence moves forward, individual Lanes are combined to create the sound. For example, a sample can be mapped to a different duration, pitch, shape, gate length, and step sequence value each time it's played. You can modulate the start, end, and loop points of each lane on a per-note basis using velocity, LFOs, envelopes, Mod Knobs, or other settings. Each note in a chord can even play something different!
The ribbons can also randomize the order of steps as they play, with real-time control over the range of included steps. Finally, steps can be individually randomly skipped with a modulated probability from 0% to 100%. The result of all this is organic, ever-changing sounds that respond to your control. The four internal arpeggiators can interact with Wave Sequences for even more possibilities.
Easily expressed. Extremely profound.
Packed with knobs and controls, wavestate SE invites you to explore. All the essentials—filters, envelopes, LFOs, effects—are at your fingertips with dedicated front-panel controls. Eight programmable Mod Knobs are customized to unlock the potential of each sound, often taking them in entirely new directions. Use the knobs for real-time performances and record the results as new sounds. Add in the Pitch Bend and Modulation Wheels and the unique Vector Joystick, and you’ll have multiple dimensions of real-time expression at your fingertips. Want to dig even deeper? Almost every front-panel knob and many of the on-screen parameters can be modulated. You can even change the settings for each Wave Sequence step! Mod Processors let you transform modulation signals using quantization, smoothing, curvature, and more.
Inspiring random mode.
Looking for more inspiration? A dedicated front-panel knob marked with a "dice" icon generates new sounds through intelligent randomization. Randomize the entire sound or just parts of it, such as filters, Sample Lanes, or effects. Use the results directly or as a starting point for your own creations.
An arsenal of effects.
Wavestate SE’s excellent effects deliver production-ready sounds. Each layer has three separate effects; in addition, the Performance has a master reverb and parametric EQ. You’ll find standards like compressors, EQs, choruses, flangers, phasers and stereo delays, as well as discrete processors like Wave Shaper, Talking Modulator, Reverse Delay, Multiband Mod Delay and Overb (from OASYS). Modelled effects are also included, including VOX guitar amps, VOX wah, multi-head tape echo and a collection of classic guitar stompboxes.
Select your filter.
Add vintage character to your sounds with the aggressive MS-20 Lowpass or Highpass filters or the punchy, sweet Polysix Lowpass. Shape and enhance your sounds with a full collection of resonant 2-pole and 4-pole Low Pass, High Pass, Band Pass, and Band Reject filters. Or go against the grain with KORG's unique Multi Filter, which creates modulatable mixes of multiple modes simultaneously.
Gigabytes of samples. 120 stereo sounds.
In total gigabytes, wavestate SE's sample library is a thousand times larger than the original WAVESTATION's. This gives you plenty of raw material to create great-sounding Wave Sequences. There's also a sample bank from Plugin Guru, brand-new samples from KORG, and a selection from the NAUTILUS, KRONOS, and KROME libraries. Of course, KORG also provides all of WAVESTATION's samples (including all options), plus a huge WAVESTATION Wave Sequences library. Play back up to 120 stereo sounds with pristine clarity, using KORG's proprietary anti-aliasing sample playback technology.

Express yourself with your own unique sound. Import up to 4GB of your own Multisamples into wavestate SE via the free Sample Builder app for Mac and Windows. Many third-party libraries are also available! Use your new samples just like the factory Multisamples, in Wave Sequences, or as standalone Multisamples.

With all this synthesis power, you might think that wavestate SE would only play one sound at a time. Not at all. For even richer, more complex results, combine up to four Programs in a Performance, each with its own effects and arpeggiators. With the combination of the Vector Envelope and Joystick, it mixes the individual sounds of all four Layers and can also modulate other parameters.
Set Lists and Smooth Audio Transitions.
Set Lists provide effortless organization of your wavestate SE Performances and provide instant access at a gig or rehearsal. Smooth Sound Transitions allow previously played sounds and effects to continue sounding natural, even when a new sound is selected.
Works in harmony with others.
Balanced stereo outputs connect to any recording or monitoring system, and a stereo headphone output is provided for personal playing or on-stage monitoring. DIN-style MIDI connections allow connection to other MIDI-equipped instruments and audio gear. Wavestate SE supports class-compliant USB MIDI connections to Windows and Mac computers, and the Wavestate SE Editor/Librarian and Sample Builder programs are available as free downloads from KORG.
Editor/Library.
The Editor/Library acts as a second front panel for wavestate SE. Real-time displays of modulated parameter values and Wave Sequences give you instant feedback on your creations. Copy and paste sounds, envelopes, LFOs, filter settings and more. Dive deep into the Effects with access to all internal parameters and create your own Effect Presets.

Free music software package
The Opsix SE comes with a variety of music software from Izotope, as well as software synths from KORG and other brands, including “Ozone Elements,” which lets you not only create songs but also manage them using “Skoove,” which will help you improve your keyboard playing skills.
In other words, once you get your hands on this synthesizer, you will have a variety of tools at your disposal to help you take your music to the next level.

wavestate native
wavestate native is the fully compatible software equivalent of the hardware wavestate synthesizer. wavestate native is available in VST3, AAX, and standalone formats on both macOS and Windows, as well as AU on macOS. You can seamlessly exchange sounds between hardware and software. Produce in your DAW with wavestate native, and then play the same sounds on stage using wavestate hardware. Create sounds with the hardware's hands-on interface and share them with a computer-based collaborator. You can also use any of the many third-party sound and sample libraries available for hardware wavestate.
